Core duties of police to be ensured: DGP

Cautioning people to remain aware of ‘those who are hell bent to disrupt peace’, the Director General of Police S. P Vaid Wednesday said that he will ensure three core duties of the police, timely prevention of crime, speeding up investigations to solve cases fast and effective maintenance of law and order.
The DGP also asked the police officers to take a pledge for serving the society with missionary spirit and maintain the dignity of force.
Talking to KNS over phone from Jammu, Vaid said, “My emphasis is on professionalism. If we are accountable to law and there is professionalism, policing becomes more effective and people are happy. I want to regain the confidence of the people, who do not consider the state police people-friendly,” Vaid maintained.
Vaid said that all the District SSP’s have been instructed to personally monitor the initiative to understand the law and order situation in the district and create friendly relations with the masses. “I have directed the police to maintain friendly relationship with people and inspect their areas frequently and maintain good communication with people of their areas to understand their condition and problems,” he said.
The DGP further said that all police officers had been sensitized to the need to tackle drug trafficking, which is a serious problem in the state. “Drug trafficking exists in the state, youths fall victims to drugs. This problem has to be dealt with seriously and firmly,” he said.
He maintained that he will ensure to coordinate with the people and know their grievances so that the gaps are filled. “Every citizen should come forward and bridge the timely gap which has been created due to some abnormal situations. Police has always worked for the protection of people and their property, and it is the moral responsibility of every citizen to share their hand to Police in maintaining peace and tranquility,” he said.
The DGP cautioned the people to remain “aware of ill designs of those vested interests who are hell bent to disrupt peace and exploit the common man for fulfillment of their own nefarious designs”.
While urging upon the respectables, the DGP made an appeal to them to guide the misguided youths, so that their services are exclusively utilized for the overall development of the state.
The DGP maintained that despite the tough times, the people of the state have always upheld and maintained the past traditions of brotherhood and communal harmony, for which the people of state occupies a special place.
The DGP asked the people not to shy away from bringing their genuine problems into the notice of Police officers, and should frequently visit the nearby Police station, for immediate redressal.
