Jammu | Jan 19: The state government Friday said it is mulling to constitute a youth commission to tap the talent of youth, which will function as a nodal agency for overall development of youth.

In a reply to a question raised by young MLA from Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir during grants on Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, the minister concerned Imran Raza Ansari said they are planning to constitute a youth commission to channelize the energy of youth.

“As of now there is no youth commission which will formulate the policies related to youth. We have taken into consideration to form a youth commission,” Ansari said.

The minister assured the house that they are going to formulate a youth commission or youth council/board very soon.

It is said the commission, once established, will function as a nodal agency for overall youth development.

It is pertinent to mention here that there is already a youth services and sports department, but they are dealing with sports activities only.

“Youth affairs are not only about sports. The youth services and sports department is only dealing with sports activities which is an incomplete task when it comes to overall youth affairs,” Raja Waheed, sports expert and also a national youth awardee said.

He said apart from sports, there is another section of youth who are not interested or engaged in sports. “We need to engage them in community development. There is no such institutional mechanism,” he said.
