No condemnation from Hurriyat for slain cop guarding Hurriyat leader

Srinagar | Feb 28: None of the Hurriyat groups have condemned the killing of the policeman who was guarding the senior separatist leader Fazal Haq Qureshi.

Constable, Farooq Ahmad, was killed while standing guard at the residence of Qureshi at Soura. The attackers, who are widely believed to be militants, also decamped with the service rifle of Ahmad. Ahmad was laid to rest at Keegam village of Shopian, where he was presently living on Monday morning. He is survived by wife, two children- one daughter and a son.

At the time of attack, Qureshi was present at his home, said Hurriyat leader Mussadiq Adil, deputy of Qureshi. Adil said that the attack was not aimed at Qureshi.

However, there was not a single word of sympathy from the Hurriyat groups with the bereaved family of the slain cop.

The Hurriyat Conference (M) held its Executive meeting here at its Rajbagh headquarters where the leaders expressed serious concern over the attack on  amalgam’s senior leader Fazal Haq Qureshi’s, but there was no word of sympathy with the slain cop.

The official press handout of Hurriyat (M) statement issued here after the meeting, read: “The meeting discussed the sad incident of last night that took place at amalgam’s senior leader Fazul Haq Qureshi’s residence and expressed serious concern over it.”

The other faction Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Geelani didn’t mention anything in there two press handouts issued here. The Hurriyat (G) official handout talked about the LoC flare up and condemned the arrest and detention of its party general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji, who was placed under house arrest on Monday by police station Bijbehara, but there was no word on the attack at the residence of separatist leader Qureshi, not any word of sympathy with the family of slain cop.

Qureshi heads the People’s Political Front (PPF), which is a key constituent of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. This was the second attack on Qureshi since 2009. However, this time there was no harm done to Qureshi. During the first attack carried in December 2009, Qureshi received critical injuries and was left paralysed since the attack.

Forget Hurriyat, there was not a single word of condemnation from the senior Hurriyat leader this police cop was guarding.
