Couple who attempted suicide by drinking pesticide get married at hospital in Vikarabad

Hyderabad | Jan 12: Barely a hundred metres from the state capital, a couple tied the knot at a hospital in Vikarabad. Interestingly, the couple had earlier attempted suicide after their respective parents had objected to their union.

Going by reports, 19-year-old named Reshma and her 21-year-old boyfriend Nawaz’s story is no less than a Bollywood potboiler. The girl’s elder sister is married to the boy’s brother which is how they met and began dating about two years ago. However, Reshma’s parents who are residents of Kukkindha in Vikarabad district caught wind of their affair and opposed their union.

Distraught, the girl consumed pesticide and was rushed to a hospital in the district. In fact, Nawaz upon learning that Reshma had attempted suicide went to visit her at the hospital where he too tried to kill himself by consuming the same pesticide. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, Nawaz snatched the bottle of pesticide from doctors who had collected it from Reshma in order to identify the antidote.

Following the devastating series of events, parents of both the girl and the boy were summoned to the Crawford Mission Hospital in Vikarabad. After counselling by doctors and others present there, the families agreed to let the couple live together. As a result, Nawaz and Reshma tied the knot at the same hospital. (Mirror Now)
